Phone speaker muffled?
Muffled usually means one of four things. Rule them out in order — it takes a minute:
1. It's playing somewhere else
Check Bluetooth first: earbuds in a pocket, a paired car, a smart speaker. If audio is routed away from the phone speaker, nothing is actually wrong. Disconnect and retest.
2. Something is covering the grille
Case lips, pocket lint, screen-protector edges, tape residue. Look at the speaker grille under a light and clear it gently with a soft dry brush — never a pin or compressed air at close range.
3. Recent water exposure
Water trapped at the grille sounds exactly like muffling. If there's any chance of moisture, run Water Eject first — it's the cycle designed for this.
4. Dust and dullness
No water, grille looks clear, still dull? Run Deep Clean: the 200–1500 Hz cycle varies vibration patterns to loosen what a single tone can't.
Still muffled after that?
Run the speaker test. If whole bands are missing or crackling — especially after the phone took a hit — the driver itself may be damaged, and no tone will fix that. That's a repair-shop answer, and it's better to get it quickly than to spend a week on cleaning cycles.
